Get right firstPosition, not just potting

The gap between a casual player and a frame-winner in 8 Ball Pool isn't potting harder — it's thinking one shot ahead and controlling the cue ball. These six habits do most of the work.

1
Use the full aim lineDrag back on the cue ball to extend the guideline before you commit. Line up the contact point properly every time instead of eyeballing it.
2
Play the next shot, not just this oneBefore you pot, ask where the cue ball will end up. Leaving yourself an easy follow-up is what lets good players clear the table in one visit.
3
Learn spinThe dot on the cue ball is your friend: backspin draws the cue ball back, topspin follows through, and side spin nudges your angle off the cushion. Small spin, big position gains.
4
Don't smash the breakA controlled, medium-power break sinks balls more reliably and keeps the cue ball on the table. Max power looks fun and scratches half the time.
5
Play safe when there's no shotNo pot available? Leave the cue ball where your opponent has nothing — tuck it behind your colour. A good safety wins frames you "shouldn't" have.
6
Set up the 8-ball earlyPlan your last colour so the cue ball lands with a clean line on the 8. Pick the easiest pocket, use soft pace, and never rush the winning shot into a scratch.
Position play is the whole game. Once you stop chasing pots and start parking the cue ball, your clearances get dramatically easier.
